After meeting with teachers, tutors, and doctors, we were within weeks of agreeing to have our daughter put on a mix of drugs to help her with her “confusing” Learning Disability we were told she had. “I love my son and he has many fine qualities. Following directions (that seem very straight-forward to me) wasn’t one of them. But after his very first session at the ICONIX Learning Clinic, he was able to tell me who the first ten Presidents were, forward and backward and inside out. They helped me understand how the mind works and how the pictures he makes in his mind when I give him directions makes all the difference in the world. He wasn’t creating that picture at all! Now that we know what to work on, we practice making those images with everything! Instead of being frustrated that “he’s not listening to me”, we play the picture-making game. We literally call it that. I’m not going to cry, but I think of all the times I basically yelled at him for not listening…and the unnecessary frustration. Now there’s a lot less of that and I’m grateful to the doctors and the therapists and the staff at ICONIX for showing my boy (and me) a better and easier way.”
